Printing with the Sun: A Workshop in Cyanotype

Join us for an engaging outdoor cyanotype workshop where participants will explore one of the earliest forms of photography through a hands-on creative experience. The instructor, Anika Laurie, will begin by sharing examples of past cyanotype works and introducing the history, process, and science behind this unique sun-printing technique. Participants will learn how light-sensitive materials react to UV exposure to create the iconic deep blue prints that make cyanotypes so distinctive.

After the introduction, participants will create their own cyanotype postcard-sized prints using a variety of natural objects, stencils, and found materials. All materials will be provided, including pre-prepared cyanotype paper and tools needed for the printing process. Because cyanotypes rely on sunlight to develop, the workshop will be held outdoors, allowing participants to experience the magic of the process in real time.

This workshop is open to all skill levels and encourages experimentation, curiosity, and creativity in a relaxed and welcoming environment. Participants will leave with their own handmade cyanotype prints and a deeper understanding of this fascinating photographic art form.

Anika is currently based in Santa Cruz County CA, and is primarily focused on printmaking, cyanotype, watercolor and drawing. She is inspired by the fine details of nature, and enjoys closely interacting with plants, animals, natural landscapes and the world around her.
